The bluegrass world and the film community are talking about an upcoming biopic on the life of Bill Monroe. Production dates keep shifting as has the cast, but it seems that things might finally be back on track. The film is based on Richard Smith’s best-selling biography on Monroe, Can’t You Hear Me Calling. Writer/director Finn Taylor and Academy Award winner, Callie Khouri (Thelma and Louise) co-wrote the screenplay. With an all-star cast comprised of Michael Shannon, Olivia Wilde, Ed Helms, John C. Reilly, Ashley Judd, Sam Shepard, Tim Blake Nelson, among others, this film has lots of promise.
Maybe more exciting than a movie about Bill Monroe is the SOUNDTRACK to a movie about Bill Monroe! Produced by Ronnie McCoury and T Bone Burnett, the soundtrack to Blue Moon Of Kentucky features outstanding performers from all styles of American music including our own Peter Rowan, Earl Scruggs, Ralph Stanley, Del McCoury, Pam Tillis, Patty Loveless and Ricky Skaggs.
