Award winning singer-songwriter, Lila Downs, continues to gain momentum and critical acclaim as she broadens the horizons of Latin Music:
- Lila Downs was invited to perform in a TV special by PBS, Música Latina: In Performance at the White House on Monday, September 16th. President and Mrs. Obama were to host the evening concert honoring the beauty and diversity of Latin Music, which would be filmed in the East Room of the White House. Unfortunately due to a tragedy at the Navy Yard in DC, the event was postponed. Lila is set to perform on the tentatively re-scheduled date of October 28, 2013.
“Música Latina: In Performance at the White House will bring energetic, passionate music to our audiences and share some treasures of Latino culture with our viewers. Much like the people that it honors, Latin music is extraordinarily diverse, and I am proud that we are able to share this program with audiences across the country.”
-Paula A. Kerger, President and CEO of PBS.
- GRAMMY Award Winner – Pecados Y Milagros (Best Regional Mexican Music Album Award)
- LATIN GRAMMY13th Annual Award Winner – Pecados Y Milagros (Best Folk Album)
“But the most elaborate costumes flanked Lila Downs, a neo-traditionalist Mexican singer whose “Pecados y Milagros” was named best folk album; she sang “Zapata Se Queda” with the Colombian folk singer Totó la Momposina and the Mexican accordionist Celso Piña, as a lavish Day of the Dead procession filled the aisles and the stage.” -Jon Pareles, New York Times
