Dr. Herb Wong, a highly regarded jazz journalist, broadcaster, educator, historian and producer, died April 20th at his home in Menlo Park, California. Dr. Wong was a long time friend and associate of A Train’s Al Evers. His death was caused by cancer but he maintained an active life until the end. Wong was 88. Read more here.
The hottest Latin music tracks of the year awarded at the 2014 BMI Latin Awards included “Bailando Por El Mundo” whose YouTube views is at 1.4 million and counting, as well as “No Sigue Modas (aka Ella No Sigue Modas)” which has reached over 23 million views. A Train’s publishing division, Burnt Puppy Music, is one of the publishers on both tracks. Congratulations to the songwriters as A Train continues its chart topping success.
Although Tommy has appeared many times in various cities in Europe, this is his first real tour. In support of his release, No Man’s Land, on Asphalt Duchess, Tommy is bringing a crack band of Bing Ji Ling, Fredo and House, appearing in London, Paris, Barcelona and other markets and sponsored by Levi’s Skateboarding Collection, HUCK, STAF and Meuh Wings.

In 1984, Tony Hawk, Rodney Mullen, Steve Caballero, Lance Mountain, Tommy Guerrero and Mike McGill compiled the most competitively dominant skateboard team in history, The Bones Brigade. Recently captured in an award winning documentary in 2012, members of The Bones Brigade continue to blaze new trails in skate boarding. Tony Hawk is featured in a Krooked video highlighting the look and feel of the 80’s with music provided by Tommy Guerrero.
In the Sixth Annual International Critics Poll, Wadada Leo Smith won the Composer of the Year Award, received 24 votes for Musician of the Year, 30 votes for Best Trumpet, 13 votes for Best Band Live, and 13 votes for his OCCUPY THE WORLD recording on Tum for Album of the Year. Ben Goldberg won the Award for Bass Clarinet with nearly double the votes of other nominees.
