A-Train Artists top the 2010 World Music Charts Europe

A-Train is pleased to announce that A-Train affiliated artists and labels held 5 of the top 30 recordings in 2010’s World Music Charts Europe, including number #1.

With the Sierra Leone Refugee All Stars’s “Rise and Shine” at number one, other A-Train clients were Six Degrees’ “Vagarosa” by Ceu, Cumbancha’s “Lero Lero” by Luisa Maita, “Opa Hey!” by Kottarashky on Asphalt Tango and Konono No 1’s “Assume Crash Position” from Crammed Disc.

Golden Gate Quartet Inducted Into The Gospel Hall Of Fame

A Train would like to formally congratulate Clyde Wright and the Golden Gate Quartet on their induction into the Gospel Hall Of Fame. It was announced on November 16th that the quartet would receive this honor along with Johnny Cash, Degamo & Key, and Bill “Hoss” Allen. Wright, who is 82, has been making Gospel music for more than 50 years and could not be more proud of this achievement. The Gospel Music Hall of Fame was founded in 1971 and more than 150 members have been inducted so far.

Airto Moreira wins Number One Percussionist Award

Congratulations are in order now that Airto Moreira has regained his position as Number One  percussionist in Downbeat Magazine’s 75th Annual Reader’s Poll. Established in 1934, Downbeat is devoted to “jazz, blues and beyond.” It’s annual Reader’s Poll award is a prestigious honor and we here at A Train couldn’t be more proud of Airto for winning Number One percussionist again this year.

The American Smooth Jazz Awards took place on October 29th at the DuSable Museum in Chicago. The awards, presented to a sold out crowd by Scott & Company Music Group, were hosted by guitarist Nick Colionne and Chicago radio personality Rick O’Dell. Congratulations to nominees: Rick Braun (Brass/Woodwind), Steve Golub (Guitarist), Gregg Karukas (Keyboardist), Down to the Bone (International Group) and Four80East (International Group).

Greg Anton’s Whirled Records signs with A Train for Digital Distribution

Home to recordings from Zero, Gregg’s Eggs, the Mix, Cast of Clowns, the Heart of Gold Band and more, Whirled Records is a treasure trove of recordings, many of them never heard before and featuring such musical talents as  Steve Kimock, John Cipollina (Quicksilver Messenger Service), Keith & Donna Godchaux (the Grateful Dead), John Kadlecik (Further), Nicky Hopkins, Bill Kreutzman (The Grateful Dead), Greg Anton, Melvin Seals Pete Sears, and Martin Fierro among others. Many of the recordings include lyrics by Robert Hunter, noted lyricist for The Grateful Dead. Many of the releases are engineered / mastered by Brian Rizner.

A Train Labels Honored At The 10th Annual World Music Expo

World Village / Harmonia Mundi (European licensor of Lila Downs’ Y La Mysteriosa: En Paris n Live a FIP) has been honored with the Top Label award at this years World Music Expo. Created as a joint project with the World Music Charts (WMCE), the selection for the WOMEX Top Label award is made using the charts of forty seven radio broadcasters from twenty four countries over the last twelve months. Other A Train affiliates included in the top labels are Cumbancha (number two), Asphalt Tango (number nine), and Six Degrees (number ten). The Award will be given to World Village / Harmonia Mundi at the WOMEX Award Ceremony on Sunday October 31rst. For the full top twenty list with chart topping CDs check out the WOMEX website.
