The Joel Frahm Trio, featuring drummer Ernesto Cervini and bassist Dan Loomis, has been performing together for nearly a decade. Their synergy and musical camaraderie are evident in every track of “Lumination,” their second album together. The chordless trio format, with no piano or guitar, allows for a unique and open musical dialogue between the saxophone and bass, and this ensemble takes full advantage. The music is exciting, free, interactive, and joyful, inspired by Frahm’s brawny tenor sax sound and his unapologetic emotive playing.
